Artificial Intelligence (AI) Education Working Group

Mission:

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Education Working Group within ROECSG aims to explore and implement the integration of artificial intelligence into radiation oncology clinical care and training. Our mission is to enhance education broadly through innovative AI-driven learning strategies, improve efficiency in clinical and academic workflows, and collaborate with existing working groups to ensure AI is leveraged effectively across educational domains.

Initiatives:

  • AI Curriculum & Education: Developing a 10-module AI curriculum for radiation oncology, supported by a $20,000 Yale grant, with interactive educational components and pre/post assessments.
  • AI Educational Resources: Developed AI resource page, clinical-study podcast library
  • The ROECSG Special Report, “Real-World Implementation Patterns and Perceptions of Artificial Intelligence in Radiation Oncology,” has been accepted for publication in JACMP.
  • “AI literacy among healthcare professionals and students in the Americas.” PubMed publication / Submitted to ROECSG ’27
  • AI Education & Workforce Research: Conducting a scoping review on the state of AI education in radiation oncology and an international resident survey collaboration, with work accepted for presentation at ESTRO and the AI in Oncology Congress.
  • Clinical AI Tools & Implementation: Developing an AI + Radiation Planning Checklist
  • Private-Sector & Academic Collaboration: Have had private-sector representatives into working-group meetings for collaborative brainstorming and discussion of real-world AI implementation, including RTQA automation, adaptive RT, validation, institutional approval barriers, and opportunities for academic-industry partnerships.
  • Future Growth: Exploring broader partnerships with ASTRO, expanded mentorship and innovation opportunities, and development of an AI in Radiation Oncology Consortium to connect education, research, clinical implementation, and collaboration across institutions.
