Cancer Health Literacy Patient Education Resources
Funded by an ACRO Luther Brady Educational Grant, the Cancer Health Literacy Patient Education Resources (C-HLPER) are designed to facilitate communication with patients at the time of consultation.
Health literacy is deeply rooted to both an individual’s and a community’s socioeconomic context and is a powerful mediator of the social determinants of health. The C-HLPER worksheets are designed at national recommended health literacy levels with visual explanation of the diagnosis and treatment options.
They are intended to be used by multidisciplinary oncology teams, including radiation oncology, medical oncology, and surgery teams.
There are currently three disease-site specific C-HLPER resources available in English and Spanish: breast cancer, oropharyngeal cancer, and lung cancer (non-small cell lung and small cell lung).
